National Board of Higher Mathematics Invites Application for Grant of Scholarships

About National Board of Higher Mathematics Department (NBHM):

In order to promote the development of higher Mathematics in the country, the government of India established the National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM) under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) in the year 1983. NBHM is an autonomous organization which frames its own budget by the funds provided by DAE.

The aim of the board is to formulate policies for the development of Mathematics, help in the establishment and development of Mathematical centres and give financial assistance to research projects and to doctoral and postdoctoral scholars.


Eligibility for applying for NBHM scholarship:

• An applicant should be B.A/B.Sc first class degree holders.
• Students who are expecting B.A/B.Sc final year result with first class.
• Applicants with B.Sc (Hons) or students who are expecting final year result for B.Sc (Hons) with at least second class.
• Students who have completed three years of an integrated M.Sc course with cumulative grades equivalent to first class.
• Students with good academic record and who are in M.Sc (Part-I) or in the fifth of 5 year integrated M.Sc course.
• Applicant should be below the age of 23 years as on 1st January 2012.

Exceptional case, however, may be considered on merit.


Selection procedure for NBHM scholarship:

The selection for NBHM scholarship will be done on the basis of a written test followed by an interview of shortlisted candidates. The questions will primarily include algebra, analysis and geometry. The test will be of two and a half hours with short answers.


How to apply for NBHM Scholarship:

• An applicant should write an application on a plain paper following the format. For details on format please click here.
• The application should be sent in duplicate along with a recent passport size photograph attached to each copy.
• A self addressed envelope to the appropriate zone (from which a candidate wants to appear) for the written test. The envelope containing the application should be super-scribed “NBHM M.A/M.Sc Scholarship”.

Important dates for NBHM Scholarship:

• Last date for the receipt of application form: 6th August 2012
• Last date for communication calling the applicant for written examination (hall ticket): 3rd September 2012
• Date of written examination: 22nd September 2012
