My Ticketless Journey!

After a long vacation which was well spent waking up at hours hardly considered to be morning, waking up at 7 for my creative writing trial seemed to be a humongous task. After quickly arranging my certificates and armed with my Campus Journalist articles, I made my way to the Jesus and Mary College. JMC, located in Chanakyapuri, is a top ranked girl’s college. Sadly, it gets beaten by location as it lacks Metro or bus connectivity.

 

 

As I set out to try my luck at JMC, I was joined by fellow CJs Tarana and Jasmine in this escapade. And as we rummaged through the corridors, trying to find the allotted room, one couldn’t help but notice that the college has a school like aura. JMC is known for its discipline, one of the many aspects which make it stand out among the sea of DU colleges.

 

With the CJ traits embedded in us, we were the early birds and utilized our time my honing our social skills. It was amazing to see that girls from as far as Rajasthan had come for the trials!

 

Well now let us begin with the actual ordeal. As soon as the teacher entered, she asked us to announce our registration number. And at that moment, it felt as if I had been struck by lightning. Yours truly had forgotten to carry the registration number. It felt like going to a war without a shield. Like going for an interview without a CV. But as luck would have it, I had wasted all of my mobile data on Facebooking. Kill me!

 

Trying to maintain my composure, I excused myself to call my mom. Of course, mera toh bad luck hi kharab hai na, she didn’t answer immediately. Losing my patience, I blurted out my quandary, asking her to do the needful i.e. check my mail and send the registration number. The sad thing is, my mom and technology don’t go hand in hand. So, even though she kept scrolling through my inbox, she wasn’t able to find it. Just great!

 

In the meantime, I was called inside as the trial had begun. As I made a vain attempt to give flight to my imagination, I found my mind inadvertently thinking how all my efforts would go down the drain if my mother was unable to trace the registration number. Making an attempt to push those thoughts away, I continued with my suspense thriller. Ten minutes before the scheduled time, I put down my pen to make my final attempts at finding the registration number, lest I be disqualified. Making a few quick calls to friends who were less technologically handicapped, I managed to make my entry valid.

 

Even oversleeping would have been better than this! But I guess the universe was conspiring against me!

 

Nevertheless, this day taught me how being unprepared can ruin your opportunities.
