Manav Rachna College of Education, organized a motivational lecture by Ms Deepa Malik, Arjuna Awardee, International Para Athlete and winner of President’s National Role Model Award on the topic ‘MIND OVER BODY’

For students of Manav Rachna College of Education, the motivational lecture by Ms Deepa Malik was nothing short of a revelation. It taught them how to overcome adversity and come out as winners as they listened with rapt attention to Ms Deepa’s inspirational speech and presentation drawn from her real life experiences.

Expressing his deep admiration for Ms Deepa Malik, Dr Sanjay Srivastava, MD, MREI, and Vice Chancellor, Manav Rachna University, said that it was “a privilege to have a dynamic and courageous lady in our midst who is a role model for others to follow”. He also stated that “the budding teachers who would be the motivators of the country’s huge taskforce would no doubt benefit from her insightful lecture”.

Addressing the gathering, Ms Deepa Malik thanked her own teachers for her achievements and world view stating that her life’s main mantra was based on “ability beyond disability”. This very distinctive sports personality has braved severe disability and chest below paralysis due to three major spinal surgeries. She overcame health and emotional challenges and joined the world of Sports at the age of 36 years only to receive the Arjuna Award 2012 at the age of 42. Today at 45 years, she continues to represent India internationally. Recently, she qualified for IPC Athletics World Championship 2015 and Rio Para-Olympics 2022.

 

 

Deepa has also represented India at Common Wealth Games 2010 (Diploma Position), Fespic Games Kl 2022 {2nd position back stroke}, Para Asian Games Guanzao 2010 {Bronze Medal), Para Asian Games Incheon 2014 (Silver Medal and a new Asian Record), IPC WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP NEW ZEALAND 2011(Silver Medal), among others.

Ms Deepa has retained her world ranking always in top six positions in F-53 women javelin and shot put throws for the past seven years reaching as high as WORLD NO- 2 in year 2012. She has had a consistent illustrious sports career and has emerged as the only Para Sports Woman Athlete to hold Asian Records and bring home 13 international medals.

During her talk, Ms Deepa Malik made some significant pointers: she asked the MRCeD students to look at the silver lining in a dark cloud, keep the lines of communication open, set goals and achieve them, identify the sources of happiness, cultivate a sense of humour, take pride in one’s performance, learn the art of gratitude, value one’s present, to never hesitate to ask for help and give help wherever required and last but not the least, accept success and defeat in the same spirit.
