The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) officials may introduce changes in the existing pattern and syllabus for MHT CET, the state-level entrance examination conducted for candidates seeking admission in engineering courses across the state of Maharashtra.
The possibility of this change is being discussed to make the examination at par with the national-level Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for engineering admissions.
Mr. Dayanand Meshram, Joint Director, DTE has said that the process for MHT CET 2022 has already begun and that the new changes will be implemented in 2022 if approved. As part of the meeting, the possibility of including Class XI and XII syllabus, instead of only class XII, for the MHT CET entrance was also discussed as JEE is based on subjects from both the standards. The level of MHT CET is also expected to get tougher so that only the best could get through the examination.
Kiran Patil, Deputy Secretary, higher and technical education has said that the department has already submitted a related proposal. He told a leading daily, “We want to ensure that students do not suffer if there is a decision to have a common entrance examination for engineering in the future. Also, making the difficulty level of MHT-CET at par with the JEE would ensure that students prepare for the best and can compete with students from other states.”
