Mentally solving questions helps in increasing speed for JEE (Main) 2013

In maths, use short methods for calculations and skip irrelevant steps to save time. The most important thing is clarity of concepts and regular practice in problem-solving. Both speed and strike rate matter. You need to be quick and accurate to achieve high scores. Never use the calculator while preparing. Being adept in mental calculations can actually increase your speed to a great extent.

Select your questions wisely. If you solve easy and average questions correctly, you can easily get through. For a bigger score, go in for the toughest ones.

Identify the gaps areas ie where you are wasting your maximum time. Try to analyse where you are making mistakes and which section you are doing best. Whatever mistakes you make in the first paper, try to avoid them in the second. In this way you will be better prepared for the main exam.

“Always attempt theoretical questions first and then questions which require calculation. Avoid numerical questions in the first 10 or 15 minutes of the exam,” says Ramesh Batlish, Noida centre head, FIITJEE.
