Mahamaya Technical University (MTU) & Gautam Budh Technical University (GBTU) merged to form UP Technical University (UPTU)

The ruling Samajwadi Party has now merged the Noida based Mahamaya Technical University (MTU) and the existing Gautam Buddh Technical University (GBTU) (with its centre in Lucknow) to form the UP Technical University (UPTU). 

The earlier ruling party Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) had founded the Mahamaya Technical University, Noida by an Act of the UP Legislature in February 2010 and subsequently notified in the UP Gazette after bifurcating UPTU, Lucknow into Gautam Budh Technical University, Lucknow and Mahamaya Technical University, Noida.

The Mahamaya Technical University had about 385 colleges and institutions affiliated to it, offering courses in engineering, technology, management, pharmacy and other professional programmes. MTU had its jurisdiction in the western part of UP, in Saharanpur, Meerut, Moradabad, Agra and Aligarh divisions. 

With this change, we are yet to see the transition in the education status in Uttar Pradesh.
