The 8th KIIT Premier League (KPL) All India (D&N) T-20 Cricket Tournament was inaugurated at KIIT stadium on Friday. Gracing the inaugural function, R. P. Singh, eminent International cricketer advices all teams participated in this tournament should maintain discipline in the ground. The players should play the tournament with sportive mind and should follow the T-20 league match rules strictly. Addressing the players Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Daffodil International University, Dhaka proposed to organize international level University T-20 Cricket Tournament from coming year. Among others Dr. A. Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS and Prof. P. P. Mathur, VC, KIIT University were present on the dais and encouraged the participant team members and officials. An exhibition match was played between Odia Cine Stars-11 and KIIT Employees-11. The main attraction of the Tournament is its prize money. Winner will bag trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 2 lakh, while runner’s up will get Rs. 1.5 lakh. Besides, there are plenty of individual cash prizes to be awarded on the final day. This edition of KPL has the distinction of being the highest prize money tournament in the history of university sports in India.
Teams from 12 universities from all parts of India are participating. Teams are divided into four groups.
Group- A: Delhi Technological University, Delhi; Goutam Buddha University, Noida; KIIT University, Bhubaneswar;
Group-B: Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi; Andhra University, Hyderabad; Utkal University, Bhubaneswar,
Group-C: Jain University, Bangalore; Al-Falah University, Faridabad; Ravenshaw University, Cuttack and
Group-D: Delhi University, Delhi; SRM University, Chennai; O.U.A.T. Bhubaneswar.
