Jaipuria Institute of Management Indore organized a visit to Shopper’s Stop for the students of PGDM Batch 2015-17. The visit was scheduled for the students pursuing Retail Management & Customer Relationship Management course, to make them understand the implications of both the courses practically. The faculty coordinators of the visit were Dr. Romi Sainy and Dr. Rekha Attri.
 
The visit was intended to acquaint students on retail operations and customer relationship management of Shopper’s Stop, a pioneer in modern retailing in India. The main objective of this visit was to provide the students with the overview of retail industry, concepts and processes, and an opportunity to understand the areas of accountability for a Retail Manager. Shopper’s stop today boasts of 27 retail outlets across the country and it’s planning to spread its wings with futuristic expansion plans to meet the challenges of the retail industry. The company intends to bring the world’s best retail technology, retail practices, and sales to India.
 
The department and floor manager of Shopper’s Ms. Nupur and Ms. Harem took students to each floor and explained concepts like layout, store design and visual merchandising. They also highlighted the importance of customer loyalty program through their citizenship program. 
 
 One of the great advantage of visiting a retailer is that many aspects of the organization are on public display that can be compared along with many dimensions like, products, people, execution, store design, etc. So that classroom learning can be observed getting executed in daily operations of businesses. The visit also helped the students to understand practically the implications of Customer Relationship Management and they came to know how Shopper’s aims at improving the relationship with existing Customers, finding new prospective Customers and winning back former Customers.
 
The visit to Shopper’s made the students understand the importance and implications of Retail Management & Customer Relationship Management course. They asked various questions pertaining to concept discussed during the course of Retail marketing and appreciated the learning gained during the visit and hopefully after this the students will also be able to determine a level of interest in pursuing a career in one of these.
