JEE not mandatory for Lateral Entry admission to Engineering colleges

While appearing for JEE or any other entrance exam is not mandatory anymore, there are certain rules that students need to follow to opt for lateral entry to B. Tech colleges in India. Joint Entrance Exam or JEE is conducted on all India basis for admission to engineering colleges in India. The pattern of JEE has changed from 2013 onwards and instead of one JEE exam, JEE is now being conducted into 2 parts – JEE (Main) and JEE (Advanced). JEE (Main) results helps a student take admission to various engineering colleges in India on a central/ state/ private level. JEE (Advanced) exam is to be taken for admission to all the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT’s) in India.

To begin with, this clause of not appearing for any entrance exam is applicable to:

• Students who have appeared for various polytechnic or engineering diploma program from various State Board of Technical Education and applied for JEE (Main) examination.
• Students should have completed Engineering, Architecture or Pharmacy Diploma programs from an AICTE-approved institutes with 45 percent to be eligible for the second year of a 4-year degree Engineering or Pharmacy and 5-year Architecture program through lateral entry
• If the student is a diploma holder and yet wants to be admitted to 1st year of 4 years B. Tech / B. Pharm or 5 year Architecture, then the student has to produce Class 12 certificate
