JEE Main 2022 Cutoff
JEE Main cutoff is the minimum marks fixed by the CBSE board that can admit students in any course in any participating engineering college. Students have to score equal to or more than the cutoff to qualify the JEE Main exam. Based on the cutoff for the year, JEE Main All India Rank is assigned to students to grant them admission in various technical and engineering institutes of India. Students can also take JEE Advanced, the next level of JEE, after they clear the JEE Main. The cutoff varies for students belonging to different categories.
The JEE Main 2022 exam was conducted on April 2, 2022 (Pen and paper based) and April 8th and 9th, 2022 (computer based exam). The official answer keys and OMR sheets have been made availabe by the CBSE from April 18th, 2022 to April 22nd, 2022. The JEE Main 2022 cut offs will be announced by CBSE on April 27th, 2022. However, students can still gain an idea of the expected cutoff based on the JEE Main cutoff of the previous years. Just to relieve you of anxiety, we are providing a likely JEE Main cutoff that may or may not match the real cutoff to be announced by CBSE on the day of JEE results. Here is an estimate based on the previous cutoffs, the number of seats available, estimated number of applicants, etc.
JEE Main 2022 Cut Off:
| Category | Cut Off |
| General | 81 |
| OBC | 49 |
| SC | 32 |
| ST | 27 |
| PWD | 1 |
JEE Main 2022 Cutoff:
| Category | Cut Off |
| General | 100 |
| OBC | 70 |
| SC | 52 |
| ST | 48 |
JEE Main 2015 Cutoff:
| Category | Cut Off |
| General | 105 |
| OBC | 70 |
| SC | 50 |
| ST | 44 |
While these cutoffs can help you qualify the exam, they may not be sufficient to get you admitted to certain colleges. Different institutions like IITs, NITs, and others may have their own college cutoffs too. You will need to meet those cutoffs with your JEE scores or All India Rank to secure admission in the desired institute.
How Engineering Institutes Admit Students
As you may have noticed, the JEE Main cutoff is different for every category of students. This variation in cutoff or ranks is based on the consideration of governmental standards for reservation. As the annual intake of this exam has a seat reservation, the same is followed by setting different cutoffs for the several reserved categories. Further, this cutoff will keep changing after every round of admissions in colleges. When the cutoff will be declared for this year, qualified students will register for the online counselling under JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority).
JoSAA will conduct the joint counselling session to allocate seats to students in IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. There will be an opening and closing rank for all categories of students in each institution. The required ranks may vary from one branch of engineering to the other. Let us tell you about the opening and closing ranks from 2022 for some major institutions. Check out the following list:

Other Points of Consideration for Students Appearing in JEE
• The rank calculation in JEE 2022:
The Ministry of HRD, Government of India has made a few changes in the current year’s JEE pattern. One of these major changes is regarding the calculation of JEE Main cutoff or ranks of students who have appeared for the JEE Main exam. While JEE Main ranks used to be calculated taking into account the class 12 marks during previous years, the same will not take place for 2022 JEE Main rank calculation. There will be no weightage to class 12th marks for this year.
• Qualification required:
The ministry has also made another change that requires students to secure a minimum of 75% marks in class 12th exam or be in top 20 percentile in the exam held by the respective board. While JEE Main cutoff decides your admission, the mentioned criterion is also required to qualify for admission in IITs/NITs/IIITs and other CFTIs for which admission is done based on JEE Main/Advanced ranks. The criterion for SC/ST students is to have secured 65% marks in the exam for class 12.
• Rounds of counselling:
For each round of counselling, JEE Main cutoff is decided separately. After the initial cutoff is announced, the first round of counselling takes place for which students have to decide about different colleges according to their opening and closing ranks. They also have to do the same for the branch of engineering they wish to pursue in specific colleges chosen by them. When the seat allotment in this round is over, a fresh cutoff will be issued for the next round of counselling.
• Allotted seat cancellation:
Sometimes, an allotted seat in the first, second or third round of counselling may be cancelled due to reasons like category change, gender or PwD status change, or change in the State Code of Eligibility. Thus, you must be careful about it. In fact, some students may be found ineligible for some courses due to factors like their vision or colour blindness. Thus, it is important for students to not only pay attention while providing their details but also make the right choices of courses and colleges.
• JEE Advanced:
If your score is much higher than the JEE Main cutoff, then you may also appear in the JEE Advanced exam to get admission in IITs across India. The cutoff is usually restricted for JEE Advanced exam and only the top two lakh (approximately) students appear in it.
