All the school education boards in India have been asked to submit the top 20 percentile cut-off to the JEE Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) for class 12 exam results on or before June 10, 2022. This is being done in order to avoid delay of admissions in IITs, NITs and other engineering colleges.
This was decided at a meeting of the Council of Boards of School Education in India (COBSE), which includes all school education boards and the CBSE.
Without the class 12 scores, JoSAA cannot start the seat allocation process, since securing 75% marks or being in the top 20 percentile of a school is an essential qualification for securing a seat in the IITs or NITs.
A source said that this information will be used to prepare a cut-off list for the engineering exam. Source also mentioned that the boards, including CBSE, have agreed to provide the details by mid-May 2022. Registration for joint seat allocation system will start on June 15, 2022.
In the past, the joint seat allocation process for IITs and other top engineering institutions like the National Institutes of Technology, aimed at reducing the number of vacant seats in the top schools, were delayed by a few weeks.
CBSE Chairman RK Chaturvedi said that even though the board exams this year are delayed due to the polls in the upcoming assembly elections in five states, CBSE is confident of releasing the results on time.
