JEE 2017 – No Weightage to Class 12 Marks

The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) recently announced that from 2022 onwards, JEE ranks will be based on the performance of the candidate in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and no weightage will be given to the marks obtained by them in class 12th examinations in determining the ranking.

However, it should be noted that to be eligible to appear for JEE 2022, the candidate must have scored at least 75% marks or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th class examination conducted by different Boards. As for SC/ST and other reserved categories, the minimum percentage might be reduced/ relaxed to 65%.

Therefore, scoring well in 12th class examinations still remains a crucial parameter to aim for undergraduate engineering courses in various engineering colleges throughout the country including Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs) etc.

At present, the JEE exam pattern and format gives 40% weightage to class 12th marks while the evaluation of JEE ranks.

No other changes have been announced in the Joint Entrance Examination system as of now.

The decision came after a committee set up by IIT Council submitted its recommendations on the changes in JEE pattern. These recommendations were analysed and feedback was drwan from public as well as experts after wide consultations.
