Jayalalithaa’s death: IIT Madras Campus Placement 2016 Postponed to December 8

The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT, Madras) suspended its annual campus placement session soon after the announcement of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s demise.

However, the campus placement session at IIT Madras is expected to resume on December 8, 2022.

Tamil Nadu government has in fact announced three days holidays in the state for all educational institutions owing Jayalalithaa’s death.

This is the second time when IIT Madras campus placement has been suspended. Last year, the placement was deferred due to Chennai floods and was later held on January 6, 2022.

The IIT Madras placement 2022 began on December 1 and about 400 students have already been hired, mostly by Microsoft and Oracle, while some Public Sector Undertakings have made pre-placements job offers. Also, companies like Coal India, ONGC, HPCL, Midhani (Miniratna) and BEL are expected to visit the campus once the placements resume.

Meanwhile, the institute has also cancelled classes for the next three days.

Jayalalithaa, who served five terms as Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister, was admitted to Apollo Hospitals after suffering a cardiac arrest. Her condition remained ‘critical’ despite treatment and she passed away on December 5, 2022.
