With an aim to generate employment opportunities for the youth, Jamia Millia Islamia University has decided to launch two new diploma courses in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning and Solar Energy from the upcoming session 2015-16.
The courses will be offered under the Scheme of Community Colleges and have 50 seats each.
As per recent reports, the UGC has approved the university's proposals and sanctioned Rs 90 lakhs for the Bachelor Vocational in Solar Energy and Rs 61.56 lakhs for Diploma in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning for a period of two years.
The allocated funds will be utilized for establishment of workshops, classroom, technical equipments, labs, machinery, etc.
Jamia Millia Islamia plans to target senior secondary school pass-outs, who are interested in entering directly in the workforce or has training and education programmes for local employers.
The scheme aims to provide upgrades and certification of traditional/acquired skills of learners irrespective of their age.
On April 2015, the university had introduced four new courses - MA in Gender Studies to be offered by Sarojini Naidu Centre for Women's Studies, MSc in Biophysics (Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Basic Sciences), PG Diploma in Public Health (Department of Social Work) and Diploma in Disaster Management (Department of Geography).
