Jamia Hamdard University Invites Application for Admission to MBBS Programmes

The Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (HIMSR), which was established by the Jamia Hamdard University last year, started its admission process from 15th April 2013. Selection for the MBBS programme will be through the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET)-2013, conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education.

“Where other undergraduate programmes such as B Pharm, B Sc (hons), nursing and BUMS (Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery) are concerned, candidates holding valid NEET (UG) scores will be given preference over others,” says M Ibrahim, assistant registrar of admissions at Jamia Hamdard University.

“However, subject to the availability of seats, candidates without NEET may also be considered for admission. This will be done on the basis of their performance in the Jamia Hamdard entrance test or on the basis of their percentage score in a qualifying examination,” he adds.

“The last date for submission of forms is 30th May 2013,” informs Ibrahim.

At one important level, setting up of this medical college reiterates our commitment towards securing quality and affordable healthcare for all. Training medical practitioners and undertaking clinical research, specifically in the field of cancer and cardiovascular diseases are pronounced mandates for HIMSR. We are initially offering an MBBS course. However, we plan to launch other medical courses when permitted by MCI.”

National eligibility tests conducted by various government agencies are now mandatory for admission into the varsity’s professional courses. “For instance, a valid score from JEE (Main) 2013 conducted by CBSE is mandatory for the BTech computer science and BTech information technology course. Other tests like GPAT, NET, CAT, MAT etc. are applicable for our PhD and other postgraduate courses,” Qazi adds.

Talking about the new programmes introduced both at the undergraduate and postgraduate level Ibrahim says, “Apart from the MBBS programme, the MSc integrated PhD in medical physiology programme, BSc optometry (BOPT), BSc. Medical imaging technology (BMIT), BSc operation theatre techniques (BOTT), BSc medical record and hospital information management (BMR & HIM), BSc cardiology laboratory techniques (BCLT) and BSc dialysis techniques (BDT) programmes have been introduced.”
