Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IIT-Guwahati) has made its way into the world's top 100 university rankings for the first time with an entry at No. 87. The survey-analysis was conducted by the Times Higher Education magazine and is called '100 Under 50' institutions' 2014. IIT – G shares the coveted 87th rank with New University of Lisbon, Portugal & University of Western Sydney, Australia.
For the 3rd consecutive time, Pohang University of Science and Technology, South Korea has emerged as No# 1in this annual evaluation of the world's top 100 universities under 50 years of age. Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne secured the second position, while Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, South Korea bagged the third spot.
The‘100 Under 50 2014’ uses the same comprehensive list of performance indicators that is used by The World University Rankings. But contrary to other years, the format of the analysis also examines the next generation of global university stars, through an especially re-calibrated methodology to better capture the characteristics of young institutions.
THE also maintains that these institutes have joined the elite bandwagon in a matter of a few decades compared to centuries and hence have immense potential to become the next generation Harvard or Oxford! Another fact that came out of this analysis is that Asia puts forth a promising picture in terms of world education, with Taiwan leading the list amongst Asian institutes.
