IITs to Introduce Induction Programmes for Freshers

Every year numerous students getting through Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) after studying hard and compromising on other things for many months may now get a chance of breaking free from academics for a while before their session 2022-18 commences.

The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) may introduce a three-week induction programme that will allow students to adjust to the new surroundings, prepare themselves to start afresh and take up courses in languages and creative arts, also allowing them to bond well with their classmates and faculty members. The normal classes will commence when the induction programme ends.

This decision of starting three-week long induction programmes and their modules are made by the IIT-Council, the top decision-making body for all the premier technological institutes. The council will set up a meeting, which will be chaired by Human Resource Department (HRD) minister Prakash Javedkar on August 23, 2022.

Once the decision is made, all the IITs will have to design and execute similar modules for all the freshers in the academic session 2022-18.

Activities under Induction Programme

Students will be given a chance to participate in various literary and physical activities and take up short courses related to creative arts, English language and many more. The induction programme will also help in enhancing students’ basic language skills and conceptual understanding.

Students coming from different parts of the country and different economic backgrounds generally need some time to get accustomed to their new environment and familiarize with their counterparts as well as faculties. It will serve as a stress-buster and let them relax over this period.
