The prestigious Indian Institute of Technology-Kharagpur (IIT-Kharagpur) is planning to start a medical course, a move that will make it the only one in the chain to offer medical education along with technology.
As part of the plan, the Centre has sanctioned a super-speciality hospital on the campus, which will have a medical college attached to it, reports a leading daily.
The construction for the same is scheduled to begin before Durga Puja.
A plot of 45-acre has been allotted for what promises to be a modern green building with minimal energy consumption.
Public sector enterprise HSCC, which provides professional consultancy services in the health care sector to both state-run and private hospitals, has been chosen for the project.
The project requires Rs. 230 crore, out of which Rs. 150 crore will be given by the Centre and the rest will be arranged by the institute.
A master’s degree course in medical technology offered by the institute has already received much acclaim across the nation.
