IIT Kanpur's Community Radio station

There are a number of things which make Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur or IIT Kanpur stand out from the list of its competitors. A thousand acres plush green campus with a well-equipped library, futuristic lecture halls, modern amenities, state of the art laboratories.... all of this pretty much makes IIT Kanpur stand apart. A relatively new addition to this list is the IITK Community Radio.

Operating at 90.4 MHz, the Community radio (aka The Campus Radio) was established to be a part of our Golden Jubilee celebration. It began broadcasting on 28th March 2010, covering community within a radius of about 10-15 km; making IIT Kanpur the first among all the IITs to have its own radio station. Back in 2009, the Institute had signed an agreement with the Information and Broadcasting Ministry for setting up a CRS (Community Radio Station) at Media Technology Centre in the campus. A dedicated facility was established and was equipped with instruments worth Rs. 22 lacs for broadcasting.

Campus Radio is a not-for-profit venture, catering to the needs and interests of the campus community within and outside the campus. The main aim of establishing it is to disseminate knowledge on health care, agriculture, science and technology in addition to the literacy programmes for children and adults. It aims to serve as a platform for creative and innovative programmes as well as organisation of awareness campaigns on social issues along with informative talk shows and cultural programmes.
