Lakhs of engineering aspirants endeavour to seek admission in various M. Tech programmes at the popular Indian Institute of Technology or IIT BHU in Varanasi. The college was previously known as the Banaras Hindu University Institute of Technology. While many students go for IIT BHU M. Tech admissions via GATE or Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, the institute also accommodates sponsored candidates from industries, research and development organisations, and academic institutions. Let us give you all the details regarding the 2022-18 M. Tech programmes and admission procedures in IIT BHU.
IIT BHU Eligibility Criteria for M.Tech Programmes
If you want to know who can apply for IIT BHU M.Tech admissions, then check out the following basic eligibility criteria the institution has set. Please note that several departments at IIT BHU may have further criteria to select and admit students.
• A Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technology in an apt discipline
• A valid GATE score – The criterion is not applicable to engineering and technology graduates from IITs with a minimum CGPA of 8.0.
Selection and Admission Criteria for M.Tech Courses
• GATE Scores:
It is the foremost criterion of selecting candidates towards IIT BHU M.Tech admissions. If you have appeared in GATE 2022, then you can check for the GATE results, announced on March 26, 2022, on the official website. As the results are declared, you will be able to download your GATE scorecard that will be required while submitting your application for M.Tech admissions in IIT BHU. However, GATE scores remain valid for three years. Thus, candidates who have appeared in GATE 2015 or 2022 may apply with their scores.
• Department Cut-offs:
Each department of IIT BHU will come up with a GATE score Cut-off for every M.Tech specialisation, and you may be considered for admission only when you meet the GATE 2022 Cut-off for the desired course. As the application process for IIT BHU M.Tech admissions is yet to start, we can provide the current year’s Cut-offs as and when these are announced by the institute.
• Written Test and/or Interview:
Based on the academic credentials and GATE scores of candidates, IIT BHU invites some chosen aspirants to a written test and/or interview. While 70% weightage is given to the GATE scores of candidates, the rest 30% weightage goes to their performance in the written test or interview. However, there is a minimum pass percentage in the test/interview. While this is the usual selection criteria as per the Ministry of HRD guidelines, any unexpected change cannot be ruled out. Thus, if you are looking forward to IIT BHU M.Tech admissions in 2022, you must apply only after ensuring all the eligibility and selection criteria that will be announced in the official admissions notice by the institute. You should keep a check on the official website of IIT BHU for this purpose (iitbhu.ac.in).
Important Dates for M.Tech Aspirants
For all candidates waiting for the M.Tech admission process to start at IIT BHU, here are the important dates to consider:
• Commencement of application procedure: April week 1, 2022
• Deadline for submitting applications: April week 4, 2022
As the institute has not made the official announcement, we will be able to provide the exact dates after the official notice is out. However, you may stay prepared per the tentative dates.
GATE 2022 Cut-offs and Seats Availability at IIT BHU
As the IIT BHU M.Tech admissions process is going to start, the GATE 2022 Cut-offs will be available soon. Until that time, you can be prepared by making Cut-off estimates using the previous year 2022’s Cut-offs for different categories. However, the Cut-offs for 2022 may not match the Cut-offs for 2022, as there are several deciding factors based on which these Cut-offs are declared by every department of the institute. These factors include the number of applicants, the difficulty level of GATE exam, seats available in a course, etc.
We have listed below the GATE score Cut-offs for 2022. If you clear the Cut-off in your desired specialisation, only then can you be considered for IIT BHU M. Tech admissions. In addition, let us tell you that the total number of seats (including all categories and courses) that remained available in the year 2022 was 347. However, it may differ from the number of seats to be made available in the year 2022.
