IIT-B Students with Dual Degrees Bag Better Placements than Others

IIT Bombay has successfully placed 950 students in different positions in the first phase placements this year. Approximately 275 companies visited the campus for placements in IIT-B and the average salary that students have bagged is INR 11.35 lakh. Unlike previous years, this year there was a high demand of students with dual degrees in the institute.

About 371 students of B.Tech, 301 students of M.Tech and 169 dual degree students were placed in the first season of the placements this year. The companies believe that they can extract more resources from students with dual degrees, therefore, trying to cut management and logistic costs by hiring those with dual degrees or inter-disciplinary students. This way they will be able to save up on salaries too.

This placement season of IIT-B did not witness many top-notch companies like Infosys, Wipro, Microsoft and Google. Intel Technologies offered 28 jobs, while Samsung came up with 20 offers. Other companies who gave more than 20 offers included Citicorp and Dar-Al. Companies including Future First, DataXU, Goldman Sachs, Axis Banks and others gave more than 10 offers.

IIT-B Placements 2022- Lowest Number of Job Offers in Five Years

IIT-B has hit a new low this year, which is the worst in five years. The worst hit was for the students aspiring to get into finance and consulting firms. Coding and core engineering students remained unaffected, however, the number of US jobs have dropped.

After ten days of commencement of the placement season, the situation for IIT-B is just not getting any better. Since 2012, the number of offers made during placements has consistently been above 170; however, this year it has dropped to 150. This year, software-coding jobs, trading and core engineering sectors offered the highest packages. Despite startups like Paytm, Ola and Saavn making offers similar to last year, the numbers have gotten lower than ever.
