The Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi (IIIT-D), received funding of Rs 1.5 Crore from government as per its incubation policy to promote entrepreneurship in the Capital. Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister, Manish Sisodia has granted the seed money.

"The fund will be used to assist students aspire to become entrepreneurs. We positively support government’s incubation policy to encourage the start-up culture in Delhi. At IIIT-D, we have a highly accomplished and motivated faculty that helps students to acquire skills required to succeed in the competitive start-up environment. We regularly conduct start-up fairs and programmes in order to provide exciting opportunities for our students where they can interact with business leaders and consultants face to face. Many of IIIT-D alumni have already created a niche in the business world,” said, Dr. Dheeraj Sanghi, Dean of Academics & External Relations, IIIT-Delhi.

IIIT-D has its own incubation center that support students in various manners pursue their entrepreneurship dreams. The institute offers its students that help them convert into more productive and successful in their chosen field. The institute provides theoretical as well as practical knowledge to students about the business practices.

Along with IIIT-D, the seed money had also been distributed to five other higher educational institutions, including Ambedkar University, Delhi Technical University, Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women, Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology and Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies.

Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi (aka. IIIT-Delhi or IIIT-D) was created as a State University by an act of Delhi Government (The IIIT Delhi Act, 2007) empowering it to do research and development and grant degrees. IIIT-Delhi was officially established on 10th June, 2008 as per this notification in the Delhi Gazette. First class (for B.Tech(CSE) students) was held on 8th September, 2008.

In a relatively short time, it has earned a good reputation in India and abroad for being a center of quality education and research in IT. 2012 turned out be more remarkable year because during the summer of this year, the institute started functioning from its permanent campus in Okhla. Smt. Sheila Dikshit, Chief Minister of Delhi, inaugurated the campus in October, 2012.
