The Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) conducts ICSE (Class X) and ISC (Class XII) in India. Results for 2013 indicate a dip in the performances of both 10th and 12th students compared to 2012. 2013 saw 1,40,878 students write CSE exams from 1,762 schools and 64,043 for ISC from 828 schools throughout India and abroad.
In 2012, 98.62% and 97.25% students had cleared the ICSE and ISC exams; in 2013, the percentage stands at 98.2% and 95.15%. Even though boys outnumbered girls in taking the exams, like last year, girls have outperformed boys in 2013 with a healthy score of 98.78% as opposed to the boys' 97.73% in ICSE and 96.66% against the boys' 93.91% in ISC!
Highest scorers for ICSE are all girls from Maharashtra – Anika Agarwal, Simran Khanuja from Pune and Manasi Arora from Mumbai with an aggregate score of 98.40%. While the south has performed better in terms of pass percentage of 99.66%, the west has bagged the top positions. North region acquired pass percentage of 97.30%.
ISC performance seems to be better in south as well. The highest score for ISC 2013 has been bagged by Bhuvanya Vijay, a student of Dehradun.
There has been an increase in exam takers for Class 10 in SC, ST & OBC categories as well. The figures are 5, 000, 4,613 and 18, 466 and pass percentages at 97%, 96.16% and 98.01% respectively. The ISC exam was taken by 1,848 SC, 2,322 ST and 5,670 OBC candidates of whom, 92.69%, 91.34% and 94.43% passed.
