MBA aspirants from across the Capital and NCR gathered at Manav Rachna International University, Faridabad, on 23rd March 2013, for an informative and interactive session on how to prepare for the Common Admission Test (CAT). The session was a part of Mission MBA — an event organised by HT Education in partnership with click4college.

The session started with Sidharth Balakrishna, IIM Calcutta alumnus and MBA expert, giving valuable tips to the students. “To start a group discussion, students should first propose a structure for the topic to be discussed. One should focus on analysing various aspects and then come to a conclusion. One should have analytical qualities, logical reasoning and leadership skills to impress the evaluators, especially during a Group Discussion” said Balakrishna.

Extra effort to get an edge in a group discussion will only be appreciated, he said. “Students should read newspapers, especially the business and sport pages. Reading any current affairs magazine will also help. Whatever you say in a group discussion should not just be an opinion. Structuring one’s thoughts and making notes about important developments can be very useful,” he added.

The highlights of the event were:

  • Counselling session by MBA expert Sidharth Balakrishna
  • Open forum for students where they can ask any question regarding MBA
  • Guidance on how to choose MBA college
  • Percentile basis college focus
  • How to select an MBA speciality
  • Career guidance after MBA
  • Chance to interact with fellow students and exchange ideas

This was followed by another interactive session by Chavi Bhargava, director, faculty of management studies, Manav Rachna International University. Ms Bhargava spoke about what a prospective student should look for while choosing a b-school.

click4college and its active members held extensive GD rounds for the students. Topics for which were like, ‘Is reality tv, real or fake?’ ‘What is more important, the Indian economy growth or environmental protection?’ ‘Who is/was the best Prime Minister of India and why?’ among others.

The workshop helped the students to realise what to expect, how to answer in certain situations and to take lead in a GD, how to get yourself noticed in a GD and emerge successful. This is going to be a yearly event and hopefully more and more students will benefit from it.
