HT Campus Calling ‘Beyond DU’ counseling session help students with course & career choices

The last leg of the click4college Calling series was conducted yesterday, June 23 at Army Public School, Sec 37 Noida as Beyond D.U. counseling session. Initiated by click4college in association with Manav Rachna International University, the event was a raging success amongst students and parents.

Beyond DU counseling session was attended by students from across streams like Arts, Science, Medicine, Commerce – Management, Animation & Design and Mass Communication. Most of the students who participated in the Beyond DU event were pass-outs of Class 12 of 2013 batch.

The panel Speakers set the tone of the event by giving insights into a student’s life, what should be a more important decision – course or college, citing examples on how a college is identified basis the students it produces, and not the other way round.

The event was marked by the presence of professors, lecturers, Deans of reputed private institutions in Delhi NCR.

The event opened with an address by Mr. Alok Jain, Co-Founder of CareerCo, who emphasized on the importance of being of aware of one’s strengths and weaknesses. He said that that while there are various options out there, it is imperative that a student realizes where his/ her interests lie, so that they can have passion in whatever they do, to be truly successful.

He was followed by Prof. B.S Gill, Professor of Mechanical Engineering branch, and Associate Director, FET, Manav Rachna International University. Prof. Gill, talked about the scope of engineering as a career, describing the multi-facets and the various perfect combinations that engineering field has to offer. He said ‘Mechanical engineering is the mother of all engineering’ and provided a quick-tip to the students, that in times of uncertainty, ME was the best option, because a student can always specialize in a field of their choice once they have acquired enough knowledge and experience.

Dr. Shobha Kulshrestha, Dean of AAFT took over the podium and shared the excellent career opportunities in the fields of Cinema, Journalism and Multi Media. She said that the field is full of career opportunities, what with thousands of jobs generated available for mass comm. graduates across various facets of media/ journalism. It’s about time that students start identifying their possibilities in the wide spectrum of opportunities.

Dr. Anil Sarin, Dean of Manav Rachna International University stressed on the importance of self assertion and self- belief over any management course and said that it is the key factor in determining a student’s success or failure. He also advised on checking the credibility of course affiliation and course accreditation by recognized government bodies, lest a student is duped into believing everything that an institute promises, blindly.

Mr. Amit Dua, AGM – Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics was the final Speaker of Beyond DU counseling event and he explained how the field of animation, albeit new, has taken over the market today. Everything from films, advertisements and even initiatives by IT and other companies are using modern animation techniques to create brand presence today. In that sense, the reach of animation and design, be it gaming or films have a much wider reach and appeal today.

This was followed by an open question-answer forum where students directed their questions to the eminent experts and got one on one counseling on the best road to take vis-à-vis their admissions.

The primary query/ confusion in the minds of the students:

• How to select college
• Should a course be given more importance or college
• Is it okay to pursue graduation and then take up a specialization
• Are collaborations with foreign universities a good thing?
• New age courses – how good or bad are they?

Beyond DU counseling session proved effective in giving directions to students. Though students today are more aware and informed on options surrounding them, but creating platforms such as Beyond DU helps students decide ultimately, what is the best way to go.
