The ministry of HRD, under the apprentice act 1961, has announced a 40% increase in the stipend for students who work as apprentices.
This step has been taken to improve the employability and provide opportunities to the students to earn while they work as apprentice. The last amendment in stipend was made in the year of 2011.
As per the sources, every year around one lakh students endure apprenticeship to over 10,000 firms across the nation. After completion of degrees or diplomas in technical education, students get placed in numerous companies in India for training of one year.
Last year, the ministry and employers had spent Rs. 383 crore as stipends to train apprentices which is likely to be increased to Rs. 536 crore this year.
