HP Government Summons MBBS College Management

The allegations against a private college in Solan, Himachal Pradesh denying admission to 150 MBBS students under government quota over demand in fee hike, has led the government to summon the management of this college. The college management, which is already charging rupees five lakh per year for the seats under government quota against INR 50,000 that three government medical colleges charge, has requested for a hike in the fee.

The HP government, however, has turned down these requests coming from the medical colleges and has strictly directed them to make no changes in the fee structure after counselling and publication of the prospectus. Out of 150 MBBS, 75 seats under the government quota including 13 NRI seats under management quota are to be filled based on NEET merit, the counselling for which was done by Himachal Pradesh Government, but the college declined to admit the students.

Parents of the students who were seeking admission in the private college now have approached the HP Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Commission requested for its intervention in the matter. The commission in return is now likely to have a meeting with the college representative in person.
