After studying for four years at Amar Jyoti Institute of Physiotherapy (AJIP), Mayank Garg will graduate in July after which he will undergo a six-month internship in a Delhi hospital.
 
Surprisingly, he (including his entire batch) won’t be given a farewell party by the college. Thanks to the bonhomie among students and teachers, that no one wants to celebrate this “painful” parting.
 
“As the college is small and there are just 20-24 students in each batch, we feel united. Initially when I joined the college, I found it quite small. A full-fledged campus was missing. But then I didn't know that this would work to our advantage,” says Prerna Saxena, another final year student.
 
The strong connection is not restricted to student-teacher community but it also buoys the doctor-patient equation. It is palpable when you find an old patient, who got impressed by the caring atmosphere prevalent, studying here. “I stay nearby (Dilshad Garden) and used to visit the doctors at AJIP for treatment with my mom. Later, when I applied for the Bachelor of physiotherapy, I got admission in two universities. The other university is a state university run by the Delhi government, but I chose AJIP for its caring doctors (who are the faculty members here),” says Yamini Sharma, a final year student.
 
Famous for: Being one of the two Delhi University colleges, which offers Bachelor of physical therapy. The other college is Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya Institute for the Physically Handicapped.
 
Programmes: Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Earlier this programme was known as B.Sc Honours in Physical Sciences)
 
Extra-curricular: The college celebrates Zenith, a fresher’s party and a week long annual event known as Ripples where several sports and cultural activities take place.
 
Infrastructure: The institute is spread over a one-acre area and houses a school by the same name (Amar Jyoti). The institute has orthopaedic and neurological laboratories where students get clinical postings. The college has a tie up with University College of Medical Sciences (UCMS) under which the first year students of Amar Jyoti attend classes there. “Barring a few subjects such as Biochemistry and Microbiology, all other subjects are taught at UCMS,” tells Garg.

Found on campus: “We have to travel extensively as we attend classes at AJIP and do clinical posting at the hospitals located far from here. But the good thing is that, we get at least 2/3 postings (lasting a month each) at AJIP every year. The overall experience of working here and at another hospital is quite enriching,” says Yamini Sharma, a final year student.
