Though unusual it may sound, but it is true. The Madhya Pradesh government has decided to introduce Hindi as a medium of education in the engineering colleges of the state. This has been done keeping in mind the difficulties faced by students who hail from small towns in the country and have studied the regional language.
Deepak Joshi, School Education Minister says that students coming from regional areas and studying in these colleges find it hard to express themselves in English. This leads to quitting college in between and sometimes not even attempting the engineering entrance exams. He added that parents spend a lot of money for these students to become engineers but the language barrier creates frustration and students tend to drop out of college. Introducing Hindi as a medium will help them express more and finish their four years of education.
Students will get the option of choosing the medium of language at the beginning of the session, which cannot be changed once chosen. Close to 200 engineering colleges that are affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyala (RGPV) shall benefit from this introduction.
