The lush green state of Himachal Pradesh (HP) will be organising its own entrance examination for admission into private engineering colleges in the state, as per a recent decision of the state government. The Himachal Pradesh Technical University (HPTU), Hamirpur, will be facilitating the Combined Pre Entrance Test (CPET) for admission into 4 year B Tech courses.

At present, there are nearly 38 engineering colleges in Himachal Pradesh, out of which 17 are operated by private universities. During the 2014-15 academic session, the universities were able to grant admission to a mere 3,055 aspirants, against a sanctioned capacity of 6,100 seats. Hence, to fill these gaps, the decision to conduct a separate entrance examination was taken.
