Starting 2022, the fresh academic sessions in ICSE schools will see a new change in English literature. Students from class III to class VIII will now be studying 'The Hobbit', Harry Potter, Agatha Christie's novels and Feluda. Also, the syllabus of these classes will include novels of Tintin, Asterix, American cartoonist Art Spiegel man's Holocaust saga 'Maus' among many others.
This is considered to be a big leap from the Shakespeare literature most of the students are used to. Stayajit Ray's Feluda, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes, Amar Chitra Katha will feature among the new syllabus.
Apart from fiction, autobiographies of APJ Abdul Kalam, Malala Yusufzai, Anne Frank are also some of the new additions. For the lower classes, Enid Blyton's Noddy series will be included.
This change in the syllabus is seen as a happy change with the board focussing towards modernisation of international curriculum and making the education more child-centered.
ISCE chief executive and secretary, Gerry Arathoon mentioned that they were preparing a curriculum for classes IX to XII earlier. But with the board having their own syllabus right from pre-school is ultimately going to help students prepare better for the ICSE exams.
