A bunch of Third Year students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering of GV Acharya Institute of Engineering and Technology, gave birth to a team called GVA Motorsports in the year 2012-13 with the guidance of a Professor Arun Kumar. Now the college consists of an SAE (Society of Automotive Engineering) Team comprising of around 25 members from different departments of the college. The team popularly called as GVA Motorsports is the official racing team of the college and is entirely managed by students, led by the team captain Sanketh Udupi.
GVA Motorsports have started their work on an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) for the competition in 2014 year called BAJA India. Several teams from all over India participate in this National Level Competition and showcase their talent in front of highly qualified judges mostly from the automobile industry. Aspiring to finish in top ten teams for BAJA India 2014 Competition they are looking promising. Apart from BAJA the team is empowering the members to build prototypes and participate and compete in competitions like SAE Supra, Efficycle and International GO-Karting. They have also made plans to compete in BAJA Brazil International Level Competition and also in Shell Eco Marathon which is usually held in Malaysia at Sepang Circuit. The faculty advisor Professor Arun Kumar Jha who is the one who is guiding the students in each and every aspect of this competition has already been a part of all these since long time.
