Gurupurab celebration with fervour at Birla Institute of Technology, Ranchi

On the occasion of 349th birthday of Sikh Guru Sri Guru Goving Singh ji Gurupurab was celebrated in the campus of Birla Institute of Technology, on January 18, 2015 which was then followed by a Communal meal “LANGAR” or free kitchen, a traditional practice where free food is served to all visitors irrespective of their religion, caste, creed, colour or background.

 

The celebration was held on Sunday January 18, which was all done under the guidance of the College Langar committee & the Gurudwara Committee Ranchi together with the participation of volunteers from the College Langar Committee,Dristi, NSS, Hotel Management and other students who made the event successful. 

 

The dining arrangements were made in such a way to cater approx 800- 1000 expected visitors irrespective of age and gender to which all the preparation started one day prior and tremendous effort  was seen by the college students who worked together and made all the arrangements taking from the decorations, the mise of food, cleaning of utensils, placing banners/balloons etc. There were vendor stalls, eating arenas and a Gurudwara was set-up for prayer. The visitors were from Ranchi, Ramgarh and the nearby areas of the campus along with all the college students who were also invited too. 

 

Coffee with snacks was served upon arrival followed by lunch. People spent most of their time in enjoying the traditional songs being played in the Gurudwaras and served with traditional offerings or prasads. Altogether the event was well organised with best teamwork shown by the students.
