Guest Lecture for Journalism Students of Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya

A guest lecture of three sessions was organised for students of Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya (DSVV), Haridwar. Mr Kalol Chakravarti, Sub –editor of Amar Ujala, Noida and Mr. Manish Gupta, Film Maker from New York addressed the students as guest lecturers.

During the first session, Mr. Kalol Chakravati addressed the students and made them familiar with different aspects of journalism. He also gave tips on sports, political, economic, and cultural reporting to the students. According to Mr. Chakravati, “journalism in politics is basis of different streams of journalism. A reporter must be capable of analysing happenings in the society.” He also said “students of journalism should have good command over English language with Urdu and Sanskrit as around 80% work of Hindi journalism is done with the help of English language.” He also answered various queries of the students.

The second session was also taken by Mr. Chakravati. In this session, he explained different aspects of feature writing to the students. He said “feature starts where the news ends. There must be fragrant of humanity in a feature. If there are different opinions for a statement, equal preference should be given to both the sides.” He also gave tips on presenting any incident or fact in a feature.      

Mr. Manish Gupta, a film maker from New York, addressed the third session. He explained various aspects of production, script writing, direction and film and serial making to the students. He said, “Defect in sight and lack of confidence can hinder person’s growth in this field.” Mr. Gupta shared a list of websites of pioneers in production. He advised students to be cautious while preparing their resume as many talented students face rejection due to improper form of resume.

The session was attended by Dr. Sukhnandan Singh, Head of Department, lecturers Ms. Smita Vashishth, Ms. Pratibh Katiyar and Mr. Aditya Shukl and students of masters in journalism.
