GTU to launch Country’s Largest Student Start-up Literacy Programme on August 15

India’s first large-scale state technology university, Gujarat Technology University (GTU) is to launch country’s largest student start-up literacy programme on August 15, 2022. The programme will be launched through Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) and the commencement address for the programme will be given by Kris Gopalakrishnan, Infosys co-founder. The programme is expected to benefit more than 50,000 students annually.

This programme will be available free of cost to the students and will enable them to learn how students across the world have made inspiring efforts and successfully created technology driven start-ups in their respective colleges. The programme is also intended to inspire students think creative and convert their final year projects into start-ups, thereby creating jobs and doing their bit to improve the economy.

Hiranmay Mahanta, the director of GTU’s Innovation Council and the brain behind the start-up programme in the university stated that the key objective of the programme is the entrepreneurship training or industry exposure as an alternative to skill development. Even if students don’t succeed in their efforts, they will at least have experience and knowledge of modern skill sets that they won’t be getting in a regular academic environment.

GTU is India’s first large-scale technology university that also can rightly be deemed as an institute making pioneering efforts to successfully develop strong start-up culture among students in 500 of its campuses right from the college days. It is also the first state technology university that got a full-fledged Technology Business Incubator (TBI) from NSTEDB.   

The programme will share the stories of successful student start-ups from countries across the world and will be mandatory for students in the third semester. The programme can be availed by other students who want to benefit from it. On the top of this, this programme will create a virtual interface between GTU students and successful start-ups in the Silicon Valley.
