Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry is taking into consideration setting-up of a specialized examination body to conduct all undergraduate entrance examinations in India. The body is expected to relieve Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) from the responsibility of conducting such exams.
As per reports, the new body will consist of experts from different subjects as members and will be responsible for conducting popular exams online including JEE Main, National Eligibility Test (NET) and National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET).
The Ministry has taken inspiration for setting-up the new specialized body from USA’s Educational Testing Service (ETS) that conducts highly specialized exams worldwide. It will conduct entrance exams for all non-school related education.
Sources said that the aim to set-up this new body is to lower down the pressure on CBSE that will enable it to focus more on its core activities. CBSE will hold exams for this year unless the decision on formation of the new body is finalized.
Apparently, HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar has directed his officials to discover ways to speed up the establishment of National Testing Service (NTS) to standardize these tests. This would eventually benefit students by providing online testing, instant and timely results reducing chances of delay in results.
Sources also claim that CBSE had recently raised concerns over not being able to concentrate on itscore activities and called conducting exams a ‘time consuming exercise’.
