Students who have not done too well in their class X exams can now rejoice. The AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) decided last week that students with 35 per cent marks in their class X examinations can apply for admission to various diploma courses in state’s polytechnic institutes. The directorates of technical education of all the states have also been informed about this decision.
Till last year, the minimum marks a student needed were 50% which didn’t make technical education too popular among students. Such a high cut-off led to a large number of seats lying vacant, particularly in self-financed institutes, which found it hard to meet their expenses.
