The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2022 is not to be postponed in spite of jarring with the poll dates of assembly election dates next month.
The GATE 2022 exam dates, February 4-5 and 11-12, are coinciding with polls in Goa and Punjab, which vote on February 4, 2022. In Uttar Pradesh, the polling is to be held seven phases commencing from February 11.
GJ Chakrapani, GATE chairperson said that the GATE aspirants would not be affected by the polls. “It has nothing to do with our due schedule and students will be able to give the test without any apprehension,” he added.
However, a source from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, the organising institute for the examination this year, says that IIT-Roorkee has advised the GATE 2022 aspirants with objections or complaints to seek clarifications. They can reach out to the officials through a phone call or an email.
This comes a day after the Central Board of Secondary Education said it was planning to defer Class 12 board examinations by a week to avoid clashes with poll dates. The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination, which organises the ICSE and ISC exams, has already rescheduled some of the exam dates.
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) conduct GATE exam on behalf of the National Coordination Board-
It tests the comprehensive understanding of engineering and science students of various undergraduate subjects. The test scores are used for admission to the master of engineering, master of technology and PhD programmes in higher educational institutes in India.
