Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) is to end the two years of non-induction of students following a protest in the campus and admit the new batch next week. The administration of FTII administration said that it will sensitise the students who will join on July 28 to be not influenced by their seniors who made an issue out of a top appointment in the institute and held prolonged protests.
An autonomous institute under the ministry of information and broadcasting, this 1960 founded institute witnessed a series of protests for 139 days after the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan on June 9, 2015 as the FTII president. The agitation formally ended in October but protests continued over Chauhan as the head of the institute.
Even when the agitation in the institute got nationwide attention, FTII received 3893 applications this year which is 30 percent more as compared to last time it notified admission. The institute didn’t recruit new students in 2014-15 and also cited that some of the students from even from 2008 batch haven’t completed the course and are overstaying.
FTII New Syllabus
The governing council of Film and Television Institute of India recently approved key proposals that also include the new syllabus, additional courses and choice based credit system as suggested by the institute’s academic council. FTII will offer 22 courses now that includes short term courses besides core subjects like cinematography, direction, editing, acting and sound design.
