The written test for entrance to Pune's Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) for this year, which was earlier scheduled for August 9, will now be conducted on August 23. Other than a new date for the exam, all the terms and conditions remain the same as notified in the admission notice and published in the prospectus.

Amid protests over actor Gajendra Chauhan's appointment as chairperson of the institute, authorities are making an effort to hold the examination so that the next academic year and future admissions do not suffer because of the protests.

Officials said that there have been years when strikes have gone on for long, adversely affecting the academic cycle. The institute has also seen some zero admission years, they said.

The students have been on strike since June 12 and have completely abandoned academic work in their protest against the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan. The protesting students are saying Chauhan lacks the "stature and vision" to head the institution and has been appointed because of his political leanings.
