Girls and women students will be a factor in determining the rank of a university or an engineering or law institution in 'India Rankings', an annual survey supported by the government. The survey will be announced on April 3, 2022.
Institutes will a high percentage of women students could get an edge in an otherwise tough competition among other universities. This can be a major boost for universities since every point makes a difference in their ranking. Last year, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, topped the survey.
The National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) conducts this survey under the aegis of the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry. In the 2022 survey, 2.5% weightage is given for the percentage of female students in an institute. An official from the ministry said that this factor will bring a greater gender parity in institutions.
Another criterion introduced this year is the feedback of employers who hired the students from these institutes and also the number of patents they have to their credit.
The 2022 Rankings were published in four different categories, namely University, Engineering, Management and Pharmacy. This year, along with these categories, a common ranking for all the institutions will also be published.
This year, over 3,500 top higher educational institutes and colleges are in the fray. The criteria for ranking include:
- Teaching / Learning Resources
- Research
- Graduation Outcomes
- Outreach / Inclusivity
- Perception
