Lovely Professional University conducted a faculty development programme on June 11, 2014, where Professor from Lakehead University, Canada guided research oriented programme for the entire week.
Overwhelmed by the moment spent with young researchers of LPU, Dr Shahi said: “India has a great potentiality for research work. This is the main reason that Indians are at the helm of research works even in foreign universities and institutions. I am elated on being an important part of such a research endeavour at the top university of India.”
Dr Shahi also told that research involves a process of collaborative activities rather than the application of isolated, unrelated concepts and ideas.”
FDP was aimed to develop participants’ knowledge about the process of research. Right from identifying a research problem to the dissemination of information gathered, the participants developed research proposals clearly outlining expected results.
The research proposals were culminated in reports for presentations in the class. This program built theoretical and practical abilities of the participants to understand the philosophy and science behind research. The objective of the program was to review a wide variety of philosophical and practical topics.
Seven days’ work plan for FDP remained as introduction to the process of research, responsibility of scientists, philosophy and science, types of research, social constructivism, introduction to research proposals, literature maps, research questions, research hypothesis, limits of knowledge, multiple working hypothesis, making sense of data, learning to become a scientist, analytical methods, ethics in research, writing research reports, presentation skills and various research activities.
