Executive MBA to be Launched in IIM-Shillong

Many US and European companies are planning on expanding to emerging markets (Brazil, Mexico, Russia, Indonesia, Columbia, Argentina, Chile and Turkey).

China has the highest growth rate of 8.5% in the world. According to Prof Shajahan, Dean-Planning and Research, there is a need to understand the local culture and language.

The students will learn six foreign languages — Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, etc. It will primarily focus on business communication and negotiation. A large part of the classroom discussions will be on Sino-Indian business relations.

Some of the modules which you will be studying are global business strategy, global business operations and supply chain management, international finance, global markets and research. Students will also be given a snapshot of various Indian and Asian philosophies. They will be made familiar with the culture of China and other Asian countries.

Students will spend six months at Ocean University of China, Qingdao. They will also be visiting more than 20 Asian companies across  four weeks.

The one-year course costs Rs.20 lakh. This will cover the Chinese sojourn.The students will have to pay the bill for air tickets. Student intake has been restricted to 45.

Admission is based on a personal interview and group discussion. Executives with a minimum of five years of work experience can apply.

IIM-Shillong is also hoping this course will increase the footfall on the campus. “Many executives feel such a course will increase their employability,” says Shajahan.

IIM-Shillong is planning to conduct Management Development Programme and a seven-day advanced management programme on China. This will be held in Shanghai, China, and is targeted at Indian bureaucratsand senior executives based in that country.
