Day 1 of the sixth edition of First Frame International students’ Film Festival received a grand response from the film loving audience of the national capital. It was a proud moment for the organisers as every new element added to the latest edition of the festival was loved and well received by the audience. The day at Arya Auditorium, East of Kailash began with the inaugural function, where the festival director, Prof. M.B. Julka, the Chief guest Shri Bimal Julka, Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India along with the guest of honour Ms. Aruna Vasudev, founder NETPAC spoke at length about the present day film Industry scenario and the objective behind the festival. Shri Bimal Julka, added “MBICEM is an excellent platform for media students to find new innovative ideas, The F8 National Photography Competition and Exhibition, is another innovative idea and so is the blogging competition, in association with Korean Cultural Centre. The deliberation and consultation of this event will really go a long way in the field of media”. Ms. Aruna Vasudev further added saying “The team is doing an exceptional job, all the best for first Frame 2014”. This was followed by the screening of mumble core films made by school students and the best fiction films received from various corners of the country and the world. The festival this year, received entries from 9 different countries, which competed for a slot in the final selection and out of which the best three fiction films were screened for the final jury and the audience on Day 1. However, as expected the organisers kept the main highlight of the event, the premiere of the critically acclaimed Korean Film, “Miracle of giving fool”, for the end. The film was screened amongst great enthusiasm and heightened spirits in a jam packed auditorium. The main categories under which these films will be judged are Best Fiction Film (National), Best Fiction Film (International), Best Documentary (National), Best Documentary (International), Best Student Film (School) and Best Ad Film (National).

Another highlight of the event was the 3rdF8- National Students’ Photography Exhibition on the theme ‘Celebrations’. A total of 124 photographs were received and were exhibited during the event. On-the-Spot Mobile filmmaking competition, Talkshop by Mr. Mike Berry, Emmy and BAFTA Awards Jury member and Founder of Golden Tulip Films, workshop by Intas Pharmaceuticals Ltd, and the much talked about premiere of critically acclaimed Korean film ‘Miracle of a Giving Fool’ were the star attractions of Day 1 at First Frame 2014.

First frame 2014 is organised by Madhu Bala Institute of Communication & Electronic Media (MBICEM) affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), New Delhi. First Frame was India’s first ever students’ Film Festival to cross geographical boundaries and go International. At opening ceremony while addressing the audience, Prof. M.B. Julka, Festival Director and Director of MBICEM, welcomed the gathering and said-“Till now we’ve screened more than 500 films from all over the country and abroad in all our editions; which means we’ve given a platform to more than 1000 student filmmakers and film technicians to showcase their talent. It is this thought that keeps us going and motivates us to continue our endeavours towards strengthening student filmmaking.”

The festival started at 10 am and went on till 7:30 pm. Day 2 will witness the screenings of National and International Documentaries, the best Ad films, the entries for the mobile filmmaking competition. Also, another attraction will be the screening of the worldwide popular TV show Dr. Hur Jun, followed by a critical appreciation round along with the performance of the Asian entertainment giants, Kingdom of Dreams and the announcement of the winners of the glorious First Frame trophy and the cash awards.
