Engineering Seats on Sale!

The BJP has alleged that several private engineering colleges in the state were illegally selling 'B' category seats for higher amounts. Irrespective of the demand for seats, the colleges were selling seats for high prices ranging from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 12 lakh, the BJP alleged.

In a press release on Monday, Dr S Malla Reddy, BJP state vice-president, blamed the Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) and the state department of technical education for their negligence in monitoring admission process.

Though there was a scope for third counselling to fill the vacant seats, the government did not consider it and allowed the private colleges to conduct spot admissions. The BJP also alleged that some of the colleges were forcing the final year students to pay money to get their documents. Despite receiving several such complaints from students, the state government had so far not taken any action against these college managements, the BJP alleged.

Listing the irregularities in engineering admissions, the BJP demanded the TSCHE and the department of technical education to look into the seat allocation process and make sure that only eligible students get admissions.

The BJP also demanded the state government to reveal the list of vacant seats in each college. A special task force should be formed to address issues like seat allocation, scholarship and tuition fees, the BJP demanded.
