Eligibility Cut Off for IIT Entrance Exams in 2013

IIT aspirants from CBSE board Class XII will have to score at least 78.2% to be in the Top 20 percentile of candidates for entrance exam eligibility. They must also qualify in JEE (Main) exam to be able to appear for JEE (Advanced), which is to be held on June 2nd 2013.

With the two-tier exam procedure, students who have qualified for JEE (Main) will be eligible to sit for JEE (Advanced) provided they fall in the Top 20 percentile in their respective boards. While the cut-off for students from the general category is 391, for OBC students it is 389, and 350 and 338 for SC and ST categories, respectively.

Vineet Joshi, Board chairman, said the Top 20 percentile comprises 20% candidates who have cleared the CBSE Class XII exam or in other words, around 7.3 lakh students.

For the first time in several years, Class XII scores will be given 40% weightage during admission. Around 26,500 students from last year's Class XII batch, therefore, appeared for their boards again to better their score; 1,763 alone appeared from Chennai region.

Only those students, who opted out for a year, will not be qualifying in the IIT entrance exam.

A parent commented that students found this year's IIT admission process more stressful "due to the two-tier process."
