Economics, yet again, is turning out to be the most popular subject at St Stephen’s with the college so far having received the maximum applications for the course.
More than 17,000 aspirants have applied at the college, with 2,795 applications out of these being for Economics.
English is a close second choice with 2,750 students applying for it. The college had started its application process on June 1. The last date for application is June 15.
Last year, the college had received over 22,000 applications.
The application process at St Stephen’s and Jesus and Mary College is separate from that of the rest of Delhi University colleges. Both these colleges conduct admissions individually and their forms are available only online.
Jesus and Mary College, too, is seeing a large number of students applying for its courses. The college has already announced the additional eligibility for courses such as English and commerce.
The college is offering a relaxation of 8% in English for aspirants with humanities and science backgrounds. For commerce, a relaxation of 3% is being offered to aspirants having Mathematics in their +2.
The college strictly accepts the average percentage of only the main academic subjects.
At Jesus and Mary College, aspirants are allowed to fill only one form where they can state three of their course preferences. Any applicant filling up more than one form is liable to be disqualifies at a later stage.
Approximately 5,000 applications have been submitted ever since the forms were released online on June 5.
“We do not have any problem, applicants are fully aware of what needs to be done and we have briefed them about the courses our college offers,” said Avneet Kaur and Mayuri Gaur, assistant professor, JMC commerce department.
Help desks have been set up in the college for aspirants and parents who have any queries related to the admission process and the courses that the college offers. “The online application procedure is more convenient for students as well as administrators. It is a glitch-free process. Students do not have to queue up for hours in the sun. In case any problem comes up, we have technical support available in the college who help fix the problems”, said a senior administrator, JMC.
