The Delhi University, after making the admission process online, is all set to launch a mobile application for marking and tracking the attendance of the students. A seven-member committee was set up by the university last year which has been working on the mobile app to ensure transparency and accountability of the attendance.
A senior official mentioned that the project has been going on for about six months and the mobile app is expected to be launched next month. He said that the app will help teachers keep a track of the daily class strength and show the percentage of attendance, helping students who have a shortage of attendance in advance.
Earlier, the teachers used to manually maintain a register for attendance and few colleges like the Hindu College, Zakir Hussain College, IP College for Women and Miranda House, used to update the student attendance on their websites monthly.
The official further said that once the application is launched, the teachers from all colleges will update the attendance on the app on a daily basis. He added that the attendance stats are very important for the students, especially during the issuance of admit cards for examinations.
This will be a centralised application for all the departments and faculty members of the 68 colleges affiliated to the Delhi University.
