The University Grant Commission (UGC) has declared the B. Tech course in the Delhi University to be a four year run for the students admitted in the academic year 2013-14.
The declaration was received with a sigh of relief by as many as 2500 students who were already enrolled during the 2013-14 academic session in the various courses of B. Tech. This decision, however, applies only to the students who took admission in the four year program. The new admissions starting from this year will be taken for the three-year course only.
As per the declaration made by the UGC, the four-year B. Tech programs (under DU and the section 22 of the UGC Act), in Computer Science, Electronics, Polymer Science, Food Technology and Instrumentation Electronics will continue in its previous format for the students admitted in the year 2013-14.
The colleges offering these B.Tech courses, however, have to take the approval of the regulatory bodies such as the UGC and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) in order to secure the validity of the degree of the students already admitted in such courses.

The students were skeptical and hence had voiced their protest against any changes in the course tenure ever since the four year undergraduate program was revoked. Many students from the B. Tech and BMS courses protested outside the house of the new HRD Minister, Smriti Irani.
The University offers B. Tech in six streams, namely, Electronics, Computer Science, Polymer Science, Food Technology and Instrumentation and Electronics Science in the FYUP format in the year 2013-14.
