DU Allows Students to Reapply Without Withdrawing Previous Admission

DU admission for the academic session 2022-17 underwent a major change as the university allows students to reapply at institutions with vacant seats without the need to withdraw the previous admission. This will have a considerable impact on the DU admission process for academic session 2022-17.

This announcement came after DU has already released the fifth and final cut off list and is expected to release two additional ones to fill up the seats lying vacant in 32 of its colleges. This announcement nullifies the earlier decision whereby students have to withdraw their admission before applying to another college.

Since various streams, courses and subjects are open for admission in 32 institutes of the university, colleges fear that it will trigger a wave of withdrawals resulting in additional work in the mid of the session. The off-campus colleges are expected to be worst hit as students with 90 percent and above marks most likely will seek admission in North Campus Colleges.

The move came after students realised that they couldn’t reapply until the earlier rule to admission remains in vogue. Parents and students met the Dean Student’s Welfare and objected to the rule following which an emergency meeting of university admission committee was called in and the decision was taken to allow students reapply for a new seat without withdrawing the previous one.

This rule seems to be the need of the hour as long as the university is interested in providing the level playing field to students. As per the cut off lists, students with higher marks would have taken admission in courses and colleges not of their choice. As there is no cut of list now, colleges like Aryabhatta are giving all students a fair chance for seats that remain vacant after the fifth cut off list. Under the new rule, the admission process will remain on as long as seats are vacant.
